Counties

There are 3141 active counties, 947 obsolete, and 208 renamed in the United States all dating from the mid-1600s to the year 2000. This is the data found in AniMap.

New Counties

New counties were unorganized, assigned to an organized county for judicial and government purposes. This means until the county is fully organized, records are found here.

Locations

It is known locations did not move throughout history, however, county boundaries did often leaving you searching in the wrong county depending on the date of the event.

In the video below, I explain the struggle researching where counties are can be time consuming. It shows how. AniMap version 4 and version 5, currently in development; can quickly show you more precise locations where to search the records you are looking for.

This video covers Ramsey County, Minnesota on 26 May 1857. A time the county was three separate land areas. From where is Ramsey county exists today, a small on was located about 50 miles North and a third, larger area is around 150 plus miles North.

In this video you are also exposed to the first look of a new, well return back to AniMap 3.0.2 navigation. The one in version 4, let’s just say I saw it turning out better.
