Pipestone and Rock counties in Minnesota is one of the true cases where the people of Pipestone go to sleep in Pipestone County and the next morning wake in Rock County. Rock county residents go to sleep in Rock County and wake up in Pipestone County.
That may be read as my not being clear, misunderstanding research. But here we see I am talking about a real life event for the people of those counties.
The date 20 February 1862.

In the picture above, taken from AniMap 5 development; it is clear the dark colored county is Rock County labeled. Below that on the map you see Pipestone to the left. This is not a data error, but reality of how changes impact research.
Prior to Minnesota State law 1862, spec., ch 30, secs 1-2/pp. 269-270; Rock County in AniMap shows correctly where Rock County existed before the law was enacted.

In this picture the selected date is 20 February 1862 and now we see how labels changed, without any boundary changes made. Simply name flipped the names.
This picture shows now even in the underlying current map how Rock County label is showing the Rock County label in the proper location, matching in both cases.
Researching difficulties is for many understated what they are going through. AniMap shows prior to 20 February 1862 some of your ancestors records, although born in Pipestone County, may exist only in Rock County today.
The potential of missed research location is massive in the time it takes to resolve situations like this. Real, yet no source reveals them as clearly as AniMap.
This accuracy was born from including John Long’s definitive work in The Atlas of Historical County Boundaries being added to the original AniMap created by work from Art Lassagne and Adrian Ettlinger. What I add, is a UI and data vision to present complex data novice users can interact with. My work further centralizes the data, leaving one source to find it rather than working through many sources to compile it.
This further illustrates why I consider myself more of a steward for Art, Adrian and John Long. I believe this should not be behind massive gate keeping pay walls. I also believe it should not be put in a domain where their legacies could be stripped using open source loopholes.
My goal clearly. To find company donations to support this work that everyone can enjoy the value of it. Free, due to donations of corporations and people who share my vision.
Please do not mock my subscription currently in place. It is not profit driven. It is how I can obtain enough to reduce my own out of pocket expense developing and keeping servers running. My work and time is mine. Each payment is mine out of my pocket, less the approximate 100 subscribers I have.
Between work, development I do everything I can to find those who support this project through donation. It what I do falls short of expectations, that doesn’t stop what I’m doing because these men deserve recognition and users deserve one stop, everyone can use and understand solution to too many existing gate keeping solutions we have today.
